Wagyu kaiseki restaurant from Tokyo to debut in Miami Design District

Tokyo’s Michelin-starred restaurant Oniku Karyu is set to open its first U.S. location, Karyu Miami, in the Design District. The new 12-seat wagyu kaiseki restaurant will be located at 40 Northeast 41st Street and is scheduled to open on Wednesday. The venture is a collaboration between Spicy Hospitality Group and chef Haruka Katayanagi, with three of Katayanagi’s protégés relocating from Japan to lead operations.

The building housing Karyu Miami is owned by Miami Design District Associates, a partnership among Dacra, L Catterton Real Estate, and Brookfield.

In West Palm Beach, the Nora District mixed-use development has secured its first office tenants. CrossRange Investments leased 3,300 square feet for its headquarters, while architecture firm Hart Howerton took 3,100 square feet. The Nora District project is being developed by Place Projects (Miami), NDT Development (West Palm Beach), and Wheelock Street Capital (Greenwich). The development spans 40 acres between Palm Beach Lakes and Quadrille boulevards and between Dixie Highway and the Florida East Coast Railway tracks. Its first phase involved converting old warehouses along Railroad Avenue into retail and dining spaces totaling 150,000 square feet as well as adding 55,000 square feet of offices. Retailers such as Warby Parker, Sweat440, and The Spot Barbershop have already leased space. A hotel partnership with BD Hotels and Sean MacPherson will bring the 201-unit Nora Hotel to completion this fall.

In Miami’s Brickell area, Monarch Alternative Capital and Tourmaline Capital Partners have signed several new leases at their office tower at 801 Brickell Avenue. Walleye Capital leased 10,400 square feet; Russell Reynolds took 3,200 square feet; Elektron Energy leased 2,200 square feet; and Eastdil Secured expanded by an additional 1,700 square feet for a total of nearly 8,000 square feet.

Homestead Towne Square has welcomed Skechers into a new 10,000-square-foot showroom at 911 North Homestead Boulevard. Kimco Realty owns the shopping center.

Beauty brand Blushington will open its first franchise in Palm Beach County on February 14 in a space within The Greens at Boca shopping center. Founded by Stephi Cohen and Nicki Maron and led by CEO Natasha Cornstein, Blushington’s local franchise will be managed by Dr. Karen Diaz Meaike.

Alta Developers has fully leased out the ground-floor commercial space at Crest at Pinecrest apartments near Pinecrest. Paris Baguette will occupy a portion of this space with its first South Florida bakery-café expected to open later this year; Jetset Pilates and Las Rocas indoor rock climbing venue are also set to open soon.

Pembroke Gardens retail center has added J.Jill apparel store (3,400 sq ft) and Crema Gourmet Espresso Bar (2,000 sq ft). Other tenants including Jetset Pilates (2,500 sq ft), Aerie (4,500 sq ft), Rowan jewelry store (1,500 sq ft), and Coach are also joining the center owned by Federal Realty Investment Trust.

APM Restaurant Group is opening Emelina—a fine-dining Cuban restaurant—at Flamingo Park district in West Palm Beach on Tuesday. Led by Álvaro Perez Miranda alongside chefs Osmel González and Camila Salazar,”It marks APM’s first non-Japanese concept in South Florida.”
