Motorists in Fort Myers are being notified of upcoming lane closures and nighttime road closures on Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard due to planned construction activities. The City of Fort Myers has approved a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan designed to maintain safety for both drivers and construction workers during the project.

During daytime hours, from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at least one lane will remain open so that traffic can continue moving. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, pay attention to posted signs, and reduce speed when traveling through construction zones.

At night, between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, the boulevard will be fully closed to all traffic. These full closures are scheduled for overnight periods when there is less traffic in order to minimize delays and disruptions for local residents and commuters. Detours will be marked with signage to direct drivers around the affected area.

The city states that “all closures will be supported by advance warning signs, cones, and drums, as required by the MOT plan. This ensures motorists and pedestrians are given clear notice before approaching the work zone.”

Residents are reminded of several safety measures: “Obey posted signage and detours; expect doubled fines for speeding in work zones when workers are present; allow extra travel time during construction hours.”

City officials emphasize that this project is necessary for improving roadway safety and infrastructure within Fort Myers. They add that by restricting full closures to evening hours only, they aim “to balance construction needs with minimizing impacts on local traffic during the day.”

“We thank residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation as we work to enhance roadway safety for everyone,” according to a statement from city representatives.
