The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables detailing the foreign-born population by generation, using information from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).
These tables offer insights into various aspects of the population, including employment status, education levels, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex. The data distinguishes between first-generation individuals (foreign-born), second-generation individuals (those with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation individuals (those with two U.S. native parents) living in the United States.
The Current Population Survey is recognized as one of the nation’s oldest and largest surveys. It serves as a primary source for monthly labor force statistics and is also used to gather data for multiple studies on economic and social conditions in the country.
