The U.S. Census Bureau released new data on Mar. 26 from the Household Trends and Outlook Pulse Survey, known as HTOPS, covering topics such as food and nutrition, health and well-being, transportation, employment, education, and more.
The information was collected from about 30,000 households in April 2025. The survey aims to provide insights not only for the nation but also for smaller geographic areas defined by the Census Bureau.
HTOPS is an experimental product conducted every other month that focuses on both core subjects and rotating topics to better understand socioeconomic conditions faced by U.S. households. According to the Census Bureau’s announcement, “It delivers data federal agencies can use to assess conditions, monitor trends, and inform a range of operational and policy needs.” Data users are able to access the HTOPS dataset as a public-use file in order to create customized tables.
Additional HTOPS data collected later in 2025 are expected to be released in the coming months.
The release of this dataset is intended as a resource for policymakers and researchers seeking timely information about household experiences across various aspects of daily life.
