The U.S. Census Bureau has published its latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for July 2025. The BFS offers regular and up-to-date data on new business applications and formations across the United States. These statistics are the result of a collaboration between the Census Bureau and economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

Each month, the full BFS dataset is made available, containing twelve different series that cover both business applications and formations. The statistics are provided at national, regional, and state levels, including both seasonally adjusted and nonseasonally adjusted data.

In addition to its main release, the Census Bureau has also published Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications. This experimental dataset includes four monthly business application series for Puerto Rico and applies the same methodology used in compiling other BFS reports.

There was no formal news release associated with this announcement; instead, it was distributed as a tip sheet.
