The U.S. Census Bureau has released its monthly Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for December 2025. The BFS offers data on new business applications and formations across the United States and Puerto Rico, providing both seasonally adjusted and unadjusted figures.

This dataset is published every month and includes 12 series—four that track business applications and eight that follow business formations. The statistics are available at national, regional, and state levels. Additionally, four monthly business application series are provided specifically for Puerto Rico as part of the standard release.

The BFS is a regular product from the Census Bureau, created in partnership with economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

There was no separate news release issued with this announcement; it was distributed as a tip sheet only.
