The U.S. Census Bureau has released the latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for August 2025, providing updated data on new business applications and formations across the United States. The BFS is a monthly dataset developed by the Census Bureau in collaboration with economists from several institutions, including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

The BFS includes twelve different series—four related to business applications and eight focused on business formations. Data is available at national, regional, and state levels, with both seasonally adjusted and non-adjusted figures. This information aims to offer timely insights into trends in business creation.

Additionally, the Census Bureau has published Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications as an experimental product. This release uses the same methodology as other BFS reports and tracks four monthly business application series specific to Puerto Rico.

There was no formal news release associated with this announcement; it was distributed as a tip sheet.
