The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated statistics on state-to-state migration and place of birth for 2024. The data comes from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates.

The release includes two main tables: one that estimates the number of people moving between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and those coming to the United States from abroad; and another table estimating where people currently living in these locations were born.

These new figures provide insights into geographic mobility patterns across the country, reflecting how populations shift within and into the United States each year.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.”
