Angel Nicolas, who has been recognized as one of Compass’s top agents and has recorded more than $200 million in sales over the past year, has left Compass to join Serhant. State licensing records confirm that Nicolas’s license was transferred to Serhant on Monday.

Nicolas joined Compass in 2019 and was named among its top 100 agents for 2024. He has worked primarily in Coconut Grove, Gables Estates, Pinecrest, Ponce Davis, and Southwest Ranches. According to a press release, he has closed nearly $2 billion in sales since starting his real estate career in 2016.

Most members of Nicolas’s 18-person team are also transitioning to Serhant. “It’s been a tough move to be honest because I am quite happy with Compass,” Nicolas said. He noted that Ryan Serhant, founder and CEO of the brokerage, had been speaking with him over the past three years.

Nicolas expressed interest in launching a nationwide luxury division at Serhant. “Him [Serhant] and I have been talking about how we can become the No. 1 team in Miami,” Nicolas said. “We both want to be No. 1 in all of Florida. That’s the plan.”

In 2023, Nicolas brokered both sides of a $19.3 million penthouse sale at Grove at Grand Bay, setting a record for condo sales in Coconut Grove. Another member of his team, William Abreu—also a former professional baseball player—represented the buyer when streamer Adin Ross purchased an estate in Davie earlier this year for $25.5 million, which set a local record.

Discussing South Florida’s luxury market, Nicolas said demand remains strong for turnkey homes and expects it could increase if Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor of New York City. “The homes sitting on the market need a lot of work or are teardowns. Your special homes in special neighborhoods are setting records,” he said.

Nicolas recently represented the seller in the $6.3 million sale of a home at 7425 Southwest 56th Avenue in Miami—a record for High Pines.

Plans are underway for Serhant to open offices in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Miami Beach according to Nicolas.

Serhant has been growing its presence across South Florida; Gary Pohrer joined recently from Douglas Elliman’s Exclusive Group to help lead Palm Beach operations. The firm first entered South Florida with an office opening in Delray Beach last year and now counts about 260 agents statewide—including Tyler Cameron as well as founding agents Mariana Niro and Chris Prakas per state licensing records—with Yasser Ponce overseeing expansion efforts in Miami.

Compass declined to comment on Nicolas’s departure.
