The State University System of Florida has acknowledged the achievements of its institutions in the 2025 Washington Monthly College Guide and Rankings. The rankings evaluate colleges based on their impact on students and the economy, with criteria including access, affordability, and student outcomes.
“This year, Florida’s universities are once again recognized as world-class institutions,” said SUS Chancellor Ray Rodrigues. “The Washington Monthly rankings point to key strategies that make our institutions national leaders in higher education: low-cost, high-value degrees, a focus on ensuring students have clear, immediate pathways to careers or continued education, and merit-based aid that supports high-achieving students in reaching their higher education goals. Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, we have prioritized quality education over indoctrination, holding our universities to the highest standards in every aspect, from curriculum to faculty, so that students and their families can feel confident in their decision to join the best State University System in the nation.”
Two universities from Florida—the University of Central Florida and Florida Atlantic University—were ranked among the top 25 Best-in-Class Colleges nationally by Washington Monthly.
In addition to these honors, several State University System schools placed highly in other categories. In the Southeast region’s “Best Bang for the Buck” list, ten Florida public universities were featured within the top 50 spots. Florida International University secured first place while others such as New College of Florida and University of South Florida also appeared prominently.
Florida International University was ranked eighth nationally for “Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars.” Other system members like New College of Florida and University of Central Florida also received recognition in this category.
Additional distinctions include the University of Florida ranking among the top 30 Best Colleges for Research. Several other state universities—including Florida International University, Florida State University, University of Central Florida, and University of South Florida—were listed within the top 100 research-focused colleges. New College of Florida was named among the top ten Liberal Arts Colleges nationwide; meanwhile, the University of West Florida appeared within the top 75 Master’s Universities.
