Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and his wife Priscilla Chan have finalized the purchase of an under-construction mansion on Indian Creek Island for $170 million. The transaction, reported by the Wall Street Journal, is now the highest-priced residential sale in Miami-Dade County history.
The property was sold by Dr. Aaron Rollins, a cosmetic surgeon known for his celebrity clientele, and his wife Marine Rollins, a real estate agent. They acquired the 2-acre site at 7 Indian Creek Island Road in 2020 for over $30 million and have since overseen the design and construction of a 30,000-square-foot estate. The planned home will feature nine bedrooms along with amenities such as a gym, hair salon, and a 1,500-gallon aquarium. Architect Ferris Rafauli designed both the interior and landscaping.
Danny and Jill Hertzberg of Coldwell Banker Realty listed the mansion for $200 million last November. Brett Harris from Bespoke Real Estate represented Zuckerberg and Chan in the purchase.
The acquisition comes amid discussions in California regarding a proposed one-time tax of five percent on residents with net worths exceeding $1 billion. Florida does not levy an income tax and has begun steps toward eliminating non-school property taxes on primary residences.
Zuckerberg’s purchase surpasses other high-profile Miami-Dade transactions. Last year, developer Vlad Doronin sold his Star Island property for $120 million. In 2022, billionaire Ken Griffin bought Adrienne Arsht’s Coconut Grove estate for $106.9 million before moving Citadel’s headquarters to Miami’s Brickell neighborhood.
The record residential sale price for Florida remains higher; a waterfront estate in Naples sold for $225 million previously. Nationally, Ken Griffin holds the highest mark with his approximately $238 million purchase of a New York apartment in 2019.
