IAM Union members and supporters of Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC) recently gathered in Las Vegas for a charity week aimed at raising funds for the organization’s service dog programs. The event, organized by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), included various activities such as a sporting clay shoot, race car driving, ax throwing, golf, and a gala dinner.
IAM International President Brian Bryant expressed appreciation for the turnout and fundraising efforts. “I want to thank everyone who came out to support GDA | TLC this year,” said Bryant on behalf of the IAM Executive Council. He also acknowledged the participation of IAM Union members from different territories.
The Saturday night gala dinner, which had a baseball theme, was attended by more than 1,000 supporters. During the event, this year’s “Gift of Sight” awards were presented to David Sullivan, IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President; Arthur Maratea, TCU/IAM National President; and Southwest Airlines.
Speakers at the event discussed how service dogs have changed lives. A Canadian military veteran shared his story about living with PTSD and how his service dog Oakley has helped him manage daily challenges.
The week-long charity events were held to support GDA | TLC’s mission to provide service dogs for people who are blind or have conditions such as PTSD and autism.
