The IAM Local 2198 Young Workers Committee organized its first Dora Cervantes Bowling Fundraiser to support Guide Dogs of America – Tender Loving Canines (GDA/TLC). The event brought together union members, their families, and local supporters for a day focused on community engagement.
The fundraiser was named in honor of IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes, recognizing her ongoing efforts to back GDA/TLC and her role in encouraging young union leaders. “It’s deeply moving to see young members take the initiative to give back in such a meaningful way,” said Cervantes. “This charity has always represented compassion and purpose, and our IAM family continues to make sure that mission thrives.”
Funds raised from the event will go directly to GDA/TLC, which provides service dogs at no cost to veterans, people who are blind or visually impaired, and children with autism.
Julie Frietchen, IAM Women’s and Young Workers Director, highlighted the impact of the committee’s work. “Our young workers are showing what the future of this union looks like: strong, compassionate, and community-minded,” said Frietchen. “They’re carrying forward the IAM’s legacy of service and solidarity while creating their own path of leadership.”
Following the success of this year’s fundraiser, IAM Local 2198 Young Workers Committee plans to hold the bowling event annually as part of ongoing efforts to increase awareness and support for GDA/TLC.
