The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has announced its participation in the Young Workers March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, February 7, in Washington, D.C. The union is encouraging members and supporters to join labor unions and worker advocacy groups from across the country at the event.

According to IAM, the march aims to highlight issues affecting young workers in the United States. The union identified several challenges facing this demographic, including affordability concerns, housing instability, healthcare access difficulties, childcare barriers, and increasing student debt. These issues are described as threats to both future employment opportunities and community stability.

In a statement regarding the event’s purpose, IAM said: “On this day, the IAM will join labor unions and worker advocacy organizations from across the country to demand an America that works for workers and to ensure young workers have the same opportunities their parents had.”

IAM further stated: “Young workers today are facing multiple, overlapping crises, including: An affordability crisis; A housing crisis; A healthcare crisis; A childcare crisis; A growing student debt crisis. These challenges threaten the future of work and the stability of our communities. That’s why young workers and unions are coming together to demand action, fairness, and real solutions.”

The march will start at 11 a.m. at Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill (400 New Jersey Ave., NW), followed by a rally at noon at the U.S. Capitol Building.

Those seeking more information about participation can contact Dee Colbert, IAM Women’s and Young Workers Director.
