The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has issued a statement in recognition of Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. The union expressed its gratitude to all those who have served, highlighting their contributions to national security and democracy.
“We owe a profound debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us,” said Brian Bryant, International President of IAM.
Bryant emphasized that many veterans continue their dedication after returning home by contributing to better futures for working families. He noted their leadership skills and sense of unity as important strengths for the union.
This year, IAM achieved official recognition from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO). “Through the IAM Veteran Services Program, IAM became the first and only union officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a strong advocate to help them navigate the system they have earned with honor,” Bryant stated.
The message concluded with appreciation for veterans’ sacrifices and a call for continued support within communities: “Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never be able to fully repay the sacrifice you have made, but we can – and must – honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”
Bryant signed off on behalf of the entire IAM Executive Council.
