The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has elected Commissioner Gabriella Passidomo Smith as its new chairman for a two-year term starting January 2, 2026. The decision was made unanimously by the commission.
Commissioner Passidomo Smith has served on the FPSC since her appointment in 2021 and was reappointed for another term through 2027. She will lead the commission’s efforts to oversee utility services in the state.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to serve as Chairman,” said Chairman-Elect Passidomo Smith. “The Commission’s work directly impacts millions of Floridians, and I look forward to leading with transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring reliable service and fair rates as our state continues to grow.”
Passidomo Smith is involved with several regulatory organizations at both state and national levels. She is a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and recently joined its Board of Directors for a four-year term. Her roles within NARUC include representing the Southeastern region on collaborations between federal and state energy regulators, serving on committees focused on electricity, gas, pipeline safety, and gas planning. Additionally, she was named First Vice President of the SEARUC Executive Committee.
Before joining the commission as a commissioner, Passidomo Smith worked in its Office of General Counsel where she provided legal analysis related to regulatory matters.
Her academic background includes graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida, earning a Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law, membership in the Florida Bar, and obtaining an MBA from Florida State University.
