County and specialty medical societies are being asked to nominate eligible physicians for service on the Florida Medical Association’s (FMA) reference committees. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 9.
Reference committees are formed from at least five voting members of the FMA House of Delegates (HOD), excluding current FMA officers or members of the Board of Governors (BOG). These members are selected by the FMA Speaker and Vice Speaker. Their role is to conduct open hearings on proposed resolutions before these items are considered by the full HOD during the Annual Meeting.
After collecting direct feedback about each resolution, committee members deliberate in private to reach a group decision. They then present their recommendations in a detailed report to the HOD. If a resolution passes in the House and is adopted by the BOG, it becomes official FMA policy.
Delegates will have an opportunity to provide online testimony about properly filed resolutions starting Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. ET through Thursday, July 3, at 9 p.m. ET. When submitting testimony, delegates must indicate whether they support or oppose each resolution.
Reference committees will meet in executive session during the week beginning Monday, July 7, to prepare their reports. These reports will be made available online ahead of the Annual Meeting scheduled for Friday, July 25. Delegates can debate committee recommendations during in-person hearings on Saturday, July 26.
