Florida State Parks will host First Day Hikes on January 1, 2026, encouraging residents and visitors to start the new year by spending time outdoors. The initiative invites people of all experience levels to explore parks across the state, either through guided hikes led by park rangers or on self-guided trails. These hikes will take place in various environments, including beaches, forests, springs, and wetlands. Trail options will range from short and easy walks to more challenging routes.
Participants will receive a First Day Hikes sticker while supplies last. Chuck Hatcher, Director of Florida State Parks, said: “Florida’s state parks offer something for everyone, and First Day Hikes are a perfect introduction. You can meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts on guided hikes or find your own path on self-guided trails. Starting the year here is a simple way to connect with nature and create lasting memories.”
Hikers can go at their own pace, with trail maps available at ranger stations or online to help plan solo or group outings.
Florida has 175 state parks and over 3,000 miles of multi-use trails that provide opportunities for outdoor recreation throughout the year. Annual passes are available for individuals and families; these passes allow unlimited entry into all state parks and include discounts for veterans and foster families.
