Florida Repertory Theatre will present “Shrek The Musical JR.” this September, featuring performances by Southwest Florida students aged 14 to 18. The production is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and the Broadway musical. Organizers describe it as a show that combines romance and fairy tale elements with humor, delivering a message for all ages.

“Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It’s a ‘big bright beautiful world’ as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family,” according to event organizers.

The performances are scheduled over two weekends: Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, September 13 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, September 14 at 2 p.m.; Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, September 20 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, September 21 at 2 p.m.

Florida Rep encourages community members to support these youth actors by attending one of the shows. They state, “Come support these hard-working youth actors – we promise, it’s a magical experience for all ages!”
