The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved new charges for Florida City Gas’s (FCG) 2026 Safety, Access, and Facility Enhancement (SAFE) Program. The decision aims to support ongoing efforts to improve the safety and reliability of natural gas infrastructure in the region.

According to the FPSC, the SAFE Program focuses on several key upgrades. These include replacing aging gas mains, removing higher-risk “orange pipe,” relocating facilities for better accessibility, and updating outdated equipment. In 2025, FCG replaced a total of 31.7 miles of mains and 1,244 services as part of general improvements. An additional 18 miles of mains and 1,185 services were specifically tied to the replacement of orange pipe.

Starting January 1, 2026, monthly SAFE charges will increase for customers. Those using less than 6,000 therms per year will see their charge rise from $4.66 to $8.70 per month. Customers using more than 6,000 therms annually will pay $11.01 per month, up from $7.77.

FCG plans to invest around $108 million in system improvements during 2026 with the goal of further enhancing safety measures, service reliability, and long-term resilience for its network.

FCG currently serves about 116,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across Miami-Dade, Broward, St. Lucie, Indian River, Brevard, Palm Beach, Hendry, and Martin Counties.
