The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved updated charges for Peoples Gas System, Inc.’s (PGS) Cast Iron/Bare Steel Replacement Rider (CI/BSR Rider), a program aimed at improving the safety and reliability of the state’s natural gas distribution system. The decision finalizes both actual and projected adjustments for 2024 and 2025, which are now factored into the rates for 2026.

Starting in January 2026, residential customers will see a monthly surcharge of $0.01593 per therm under the CI/BSR Rider. For an average household using 20 therms each month, this translates to an increase of about 32 cents on their bill.

According to the FPSC, “The CI/BSR Rider funds the ongoing replacement of aging cast iron, bare steel, and problematic plastic pipe.” For the upcoming year, PGS plans to invest around $62.1 million in system modernization efforts. After taking into account previous years’ adjustments, this results in an approved revenue requirement of $2.9 million.

Peoples Gas System serves over 400,000 customers—including residential, commercial, and industrial users—across 14 service areas throughout Florida.
