Family Initiative, Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on supporting children and young adults with autism and their families, has announced the appointment of Kevin Offerman to its Board of Directors. Offerman is a local entrepreneur and owner of City Tavern and Hogwash in downtown Fort Myers.
Offerman has supported Family Initiative for more than eight years. As the father of twin boys diagnosed with autism, he brings personal experience to the organization’s mission. His involvement includes sponsoring events, engaging with lawmakers, and hosting fundraisers.
“Kevin’s heart for our families and tireless advocacy make him an incredible addition to our Board,” said David Brown, President and Co-Founder of Family Initiative. “From sponsoring events to engaging with lawmakers and hosting fundraisers, Kevin has helped move our mission forward in powerful ways.”
Since purchasing City Tavern in 2008, Offerman has promoted inclusive community events through his businesses. One example is the annual 4th of July Chili Dog Eating Contest, which marked its sixth year in July 2025 by raising funds and awareness for Family Initiative.
“I’m honored to officially join the Board of an organization I’ve supported and believed in for many years,” said Offerman. “As a parent and a community member, I know how vital Family Initiative’s work is, and I’m excited to help continue creating opportunities for families like mine.”
Offerman joins other community leaders on the board who guide programs such as Thrive Academy, Autism social skills groups, caregiver education initiatives, and child welfare support services.
Family Initiative was founded in 2015 as a Florida-based nonprofit providing support for children with autism using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Occupational Therapy (OT). The organization also offers play groups for children with autism, teen meetups, parent education sessions, community conversations, as well as training and support for child welfare caregivers through its Family Impact Program.
