Duke Energy Ohio & Kentucky, in partnership with customers, employees, and local organizations, has provided more than $860,000 in energy assistance to community agencies this year. The support is part of the Share the Light Fund initiative, which helps families keep their homes warm and powered during winter.
The company collaborates with groups such as the Salvation Army, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission to deliver aid to those facing financial challenges. According to Duke Energy Ohio & Kentucky, over one-third of the funding came from the Duke Energy Foundation. This includes an additional $100,000 invested earlier in the year to assist families during periods of extreme heat.
Kim Vogelgesang, Duke Energy Foundation manager, said: “Behind every request for help is a story – a family, a friend, a community member working to get through a tough time. Through Share the Light Fund and our local partners, we’re able to support our neighbors in their moment of need.”
Last year alone, Duke Energy and its Foundation contributed more than $2.6 million to nonprofits within its Ohio and Kentucky service area. Employees also donated over $650,000 through volunteer hours and financial contributions.
Customers seeking assistance can locate local agencies using the company’s Payment Assistance Finder tool. Those interested in contributing can make recurring or one-time donations to the Share the Light Fund.
