The Duke Energy Foundation has announced the launch of its America250 grant program, offering more than $1 million in funding to support community projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Florida. The initiative is part of the foundation’s efforts to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Grants will range from $5,000 to $20,000 and are available to qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that serve communities within Duke Energy’s service areas. Governmental entities are not eligible for this funding. Each organization may submit only one application during the open window from January 12 through February 20.
Projects funded by these grants should align with three core themes: workforce development programs for veterans transitioning to civilian careers; local history initiatives such as public exhibits or educational programming that celebrate America’s founding; and efforts to improve shared green spaces through cleanups or park revitalizations.
“America250 is more than a milestone – it’s an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, recognize the contributions of all Americans and support the next generation through community-led projects,” said Loree Elswick, president of the Duke Energy Foundation. “Our investment is focused on uplifting the places and people that shape our communities.”
The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support for communities where Duke Energy customers live and work. The foundation is funded by shareholders of Duke Energy.
Duke Energy serves approximately 8.6 million electric customers across six states and operates a total energy capacity of 55,100 megawatts. Its natural gas utilities provide service to about 1.7 million customers in several states.
