Duke Energy Florida announced on Mar. 25 that nearly $30.5 million in energy bill assistance was provided to approximately 31,000 customers in Florida during 2025, and additional resources remain available for those facing payment challenges.
The announcement comes as storm cost recovery charges have been removed from customer bills as of February, reducing residential bills by about $44 for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours used. This change is expected to ease financial burdens on households but the company said it recognizes some customers may still need help.
Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, said, “We know that unexpected challenges can arise, and we’re committed to standing by our customers when they need it most. These programs help provide a safety net for families navigating temporary hardship while keeping their households running.”
The company works with community partners and various assistance programs such as Share The Light Fund, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and FL211.org to connect eligible customers with support. Beyond direct financial aid, Duke Energy offers installment plans for flexible payments and due date extensions ranging from one to ten business days. The company also provides seasonal savings tips through tools like energy usage tracking and dashboards designed to help reduce everyday energy consumption.
Duke Energy Florida serves two million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across a 13,000-square-mile area in the state. Its parent company operates electric utilities serving over eight million people across six states and continues investing in grid upgrades and cleaner generation technologies.
