French insurance executive Solly Azar has sold his condo at Oceana Bal Harbour for $30.5 million to Dan Fischel and Sylvia Neil, two well-known legal professionals from Chicago. This transaction sets a new record for condo sales in Bal Harbour, surpassing the previous high of $25 million paid for another unit in the same building in 2023.

According to property records, a trust in Azar’s name sold unit 2601 at 10201 Collins Avenue to Fischel and Neil for $29 million, which equates to nearly $3,900 per square foot. The total purchase price of $30.5 million includes a two-space parking garage and furniture. The listing was handled by Ruthie and Ethan Assouline and Eytan Namiech of the Assouline Team at Douglas Elliman, while Joelle Oiknine, Marie Miller, and Nathalie Attias of the Joelle Team at One Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyers.

Azar originally purchased the two units that make up unit 2601 for $16.3 million when Oceana Bal Harbour was completed in 2017. The residence spans 7,442 square feet with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, and features a wraparound terrace measuring over 2,300 square feet.

Dan Fischel is a former dean of the University of Chicago Law School and co-founder of Compass Lexecon, an economic consulting firm based in Chicago. He has served as an expert witness in notable cases such as those related to Enron and authored “Payback: The Conspiracy to Destroy Michael Milken and His Financial Revolution,” a book defending financier Michael Milken during his insider trading scandal.

Sylvia Neil has held roles as lecturer in law and associate dean at the University of Chicago Law School. She currently serves as board chairperson of the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The prior record sale in Bal Harbour also involved buyers from Chicago; two years ago, an entity from that city paid $25 million for another large unit brokered by the Assouline Team.

Oceana Bal Harbour is a 28-story oceanfront tower featuring amenities such as a spa, tennis courts, library, pool, and poolside restaurant.
