The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated international population estimates and projections, extending demographic data through the year 2100 for 21 countries and areas in its International Database (IDB). The update covers Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, El Salvador, Eswatini, Guatemala, Iran, Jamaica, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Togo, Tunisia, the United States and Zambia.

This release also includes information for 13,671 subnational regions around the world that are comparable to U.S. states or counties. New mapping features have been added to enhance data accessibility.

According to the Census Bureau’s announcement: “The current update incorporates new data from censuses, surveys and administrative records, and updated analyses based on those data.”

The IDB provides estimates and projections on a range of demographic indicators such as population size by sex and single year of age up to 100-plus years old. It also includes statistics on mortality rates, fertility rates and net international migration for over 220 countries and areas globally. The database is periodically revised as new information becomes available.

More details about these updates can be found on the International Database Overview webpage at https://www.census.gov/data-tools/demo/idb/informationGateway.php.
